Man United fans react to Aaron Wan-Bissaka performance as £15m star makes West Ham debut

Aaron Wan-Bissaka made his first start for West Ham on Saturday since his £15million exit from Manchester United this summer.

United fans likely still had their head in their hands from the 2-1 defeat to Brighton by the time West Ham kicked off against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Joao Pedro’s injury-time winner inflicted United’s first defeat of the season and added to the frustration of a ridiculous VAR decision to disallow Alejandro Garnacho’s goal.

The outrageous refereeing decision had already made the 1-1 scoreline feel disappointing, but things went from bad to worse when Pedro was somehow afforded acres of space at the back post to head home the winner.

It was a defensive shambles from Erik ten Hag‘s side, but Noussair Mazraoui impressed again vs Brighton following a promising debut against Fulham the week prior.

Mazraoui joined United in a £17million deal to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s West Ham debut

After being left out for West Ham’s opener against Aston Villa last week, Wan-Bissaka was named on the bench again for their trip to Crystal Palace.

The former United defender was handed his debut when introduced as a substitute for Michail Antonio on the hour mark, and he certainly didn’t disappoint.

Wan-Bissaka took no time to settle into the match and not only was he impressive defensively with two ground duels, one interception and one clearance in his 28-minute cameo, but he also was threatening going forward.

The 26-year-old, who joined United for £50million back in 2019, made a bursting run down the right in the second half which led to Tomas Soucek’s opener.

He made the weaving run just a few minutes after coming off the bench for his debut.

Manchester United fans react to Wan-Bissaka debut

After witnessing defensive chaos in United’s backline against Brighton, Wan-Bissaka’s impressive performance only soured the taste in fans’ mouths.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, one supporter suggested “we lost a gem” by selling Wan-Bissaka this summer.

Another posted “AWB leaving was not a good idea,” adding “Wan-Bissaka left United and instantly became prime Cafu”.

A third supporter suggested that United missed Wan-Bissaka against Brighton, saying “And both goals Man Utd conceded today came from the right flank…”.

The regret over Wan-Bissaka’s sale continued with another post reading “We lost a great player cause we don’t have a great system”.

A fifth supporter posted “I really cant believe we sold him”, while another added “Why did we let Wan-Bissaka go? Baffling!”.
